Popular German drugstore Drogerie Markt (DM) has announced that it is installing automatic pick-up lockers in its stores. Customers can easily collect online orders at the pick-up stations. It will install the lockers in at least 700 stores.
While the drugstore is originally from Germany, it has stores in 14 countries across Europe. In at least 700 of its stores, it is rolling out pick-up stations with automated lockers. Each station can hold up to 26 online orders at the same time.
Omnichannel presence
The chain already has an omnichannel presence, with an app and online shop in addition to its brick-and-mortar stores. Previously, customers could collect their online orders at the cash register. With the pick-up stations, they can collect orders contactless and without having to wait.
‘Some products can be collected within 3 hours.’
So far, 49 pick-up stations are already installed in DM stores in Germany. Customers can collect their order during opening hours after receiving a collection code in the app or by email. Products in the express collection can be collected within 3 hours.
‘Increase in online purchases expected’
“With the dm pick-up stations, we combine the stationary shopping experience in our stores with the advantages of ordering via the DM app or our online shop”, says Sebastian Bayer, DM Marketing Director. “The response to the test of our pick-up stations was very positive. We expect an increase in online purchases, which is why we will equip around 700 stores with pickup stations by the middle of 2023.”
